so, more on the audio cd playing problem under gentoo i experienced yesterday..

every now and then, i tend to overlook certain things that in the end, turns out to be quite important. though, overlook is not exactly the word, in yesterday’s case, i completely forgot.

how did i fix the audio cd problem?

1) connect the cd-rom to the soundcard using the analog line-out audio cable.

2) and this is the most frustrating part coz this is the easiest and i remembered this last. unmute your fucking cd rom drive in your mixer settings! easily done in windows… but in my case, i’m using alsa, built in-kernel.

3) this is really optional .. add /etc/init.d/alsasound to my runlevel … so that mixer settings will be restored at every boot.

i’ve learned something new again. school sucks.

i spent a good portion of the day trying to fix some audio cd playing issue in my gentoo box at my room, thinking at first that this was just a simple case of wrong permission allocations in the udev rule. when i finally settled the issue, i popped in my sum 41 acd, and as what any self respecting lazy bum would do, i pressed the button in grip that would fetch cd information so that i won’t hafta fill in song titles and whatnot that will surely waste my time. nothing happened….

in xmms’ libcdaudio network window, i got this:

just when i was getting sore and bitchy while waiting for steph’s reply … it came. so now i’m three pesos less of load but three times happier. i don’t know why i did it. but i asked for her celphone number again from my friend and sent her a crude, imprompt letter.. greeting her and at the same time wishing her goodluck for the finals… funny thing is, finals end tommorrow. usually, i would just drop the issue, don’t ask me why i didn’t. think of this as a blogging moment … and i wish i would experience more of it as time passes by. we’ll just hafta see where this leads to again. i’ll stick around long enuff to see things develop.. so for now, i guess i’m back to texting her again … here to stay. and it sounds like a very good idea, even if things are still a bit shaky and fragile…

she was semi-apologetic for replying insanely late…(or at least i think she was) dont wanna go into details about that, but in the end, the reasons had nothing to do with me after all. needless to say, i’m quite ecstatic she did the thing she did tonight. it was soo sweet of her to say those words to me _after all the time_ we spent being quiet. i have lots of question to ask her… and lots of stories to tell in exchange. overall, this still bothers me, “how does she feel now that i’ve texted her”?

the bulletin feature is open to abuse. it a great place for doing two things. over posting and chain-letter spamming. so i’m asking… nicely, for a change. quit being such lousy users. you’re spoiling up friendster for the rest of us. redundant posting is stupid and pointless.

yesterday, i completed our visual basic’ed gui for our group’s system project in cs 311. it’s in much better shape now than when it started out, although overall, i’d still give it zero out of ten. lesson learned. i won’t take glade for granted again. moreover, i’m in no position to complain since i only have like… two days to come up with some shit to present to my teacher who feels like she knows everything come finals next week.

sucks. i guess the teacher is too stupid to realize that cs is not our only subject. read: i hate you for forcing me to use visual basic.

2) math 216 (integral calculus shit)

to future teachers:

you reap what you sow. if you don’t know how to teach, don’t expect your students to get decent grades on your tests. we do study, but there are just some things that are hopelessly beyond our intellectual capacity. tell me to solve trigonometric integral problems, i’ll frown. ask me about kenshin himura’s sword styles and i’ll recite them all immediately, with feelings.. alphabetically backwards. get my point?

3) dota allstars

because it pays to kick ass. when i’m not in my room contructing the gui for our systems project in cs 311, i’m at school playing dota.
